Muggle Cards!!! Whats Geocaching? What's a Muggle? Sometimes it can be a little difficult to explain Geocaching with out sounding crazy, partially because craziness is kind of a prerequisite, but to make it easier we made quick and easy pass along cards with a functioning QR Code and some basic information and rules.

Today was a normal BISHOPSCREW set of geocaching adventures. We've been working on a series of caches dedicated to the history and Archeology of North West Florida. It has led us all over NW Florida and we've been to tons of Museums and awesome sites not to mention we might have even learned a thing or two. Hopefully that's not stretching it to much?

Here's a crazy Geo-coin that Todd got in a cache when he was TDY in YUMA AZ. Coins move from cache to cache and are tracked on geocaching.com this one has almost traveled around the world! It's traveled 9391 miles and started in Germany. That info can be seen here.

This Saturday we went out to find the perfect Florida sand pine aka Our Christmas tree. Shawn got to be the one to chop it down so here he is doing a little practicing.

Good bye 90 and hello sidecar

This week we sold our beloved Trail 90.

Shawn as a little guy and the old trail 90. It will be missed!

But to replace it we got a 1957 CJ750 with sidecar. Shawn and William love the new sidecar and I think that we will have lots of new memories with our new ride.

Williams 1st dental appointment

I took William to the dentist today, because on Sunday I noticed a big dark spot on the back of one of his front teeth. I started to think about all the bad things that it could be and what was going to happen to him, to get it fixed and how much it was going to cost to get it fixed. So needless to say I was freaking out a little and nervous when I took him in today, and you will be surprise at what they found. The big spot was a dark blue sequin! I know that boy will put anything in his mouth! The sequin after removal.

We went to Bass Pro Shop on Veterans Day and Santa was there. William didn't like it him so much and Shawn didn't care one way or the other. What Shawn did like was that they had toys for him to play with. They have a shooting game and a huge race track with cars. Not to mention that they always have the Huge Fish tank which the whole family enjoys:)

So we went to the book store and met them and when we where leaving he said "Why do they have arms and legs at the store and not in the movies?" And then he said "I know they are Robots and they need to have arms and legs to get around" :) I didn't want to tell him they are just men in costumes:)

I Changed the waffles recipe from Alton Brown a little and got some wonderful Pumpkin waffles. I just didn't put in the Orange zest and added a whole can of pumpkin instead of sweet potatoes.

Spinach Artichoke Calzones

I made these yummy Spinach Artichoke Calzones that I found on my friend Emily's blog http://kamandemveg.blogspot.com . This is the filing. So supper good!

I made my own whole wheat pizza dough, so yummy! I found the recipe at Robbie's Recipe Collection I doubled the recipe so that I would have 16 calzones.
Here is my little helper putting the egg white wash on the calzones before they went into the oven.
Here they are all done and Yummy!
I put William in his High Chair while I was making the calzones and I guess it was taking me too long to make them.

For my friends that don't know what Grits are it is. Grits mainly consists of coarsely ground corn that you cook in boiling water. The end result is something that looks like cream of wheat, but it doesn't taste like it. I have tried cheese grits many times since we moved to Florida 4 years ago, but have never tried them plain, so I thought I would make some up and try it. And I think that I like them plain better then the other ways I have tried.

The Mower

Yesterday we were given a Forrest Gump style Snapper mower from our friend Kevin, but it needed a little TLC.

Here it is! And Here's what was in need of repair.

1. All 4 Tires flat, but one would hold air.
2. Battery dead
3. Pull start spring broken
4. Ignition in operative
5. Spark Plug fouled
6. All fluids weren't really fluids anymore
7. Throttle cable seized and broken
8. Fuel line cracked and dissolved
9. Fuel filter clogged
10. Starter seized up
11. Magneto rusted to the flywheel
12. Carburetor needed cleaned (see below)
13. Float bowl, (below) was rusted through, soldered up the pin holes
14. Jets clogged
15. Linkage seized
17. Gas tank full of "goo"
18. Gas cap vent broken

I'm sure we'll think of the rest later?

After a long day and about $30 or $40 it was up and mowing like a champ, Todd and Shawn gave it the test-a-roo. It left a trail of stuff that fell off but it didn't seem to affect it. "If it's not broke then don't fix it."

It's alive! I also had to paint the pull starter cover and air filter it was driving me crazy.

Henderson Beach

A lot of people have been asking us recently if the oil is here at our beaches. We do have a few oil balls that wash on to shore from time to time, but the water is still clear and we can still play in it. So on July 3rd we went to the beach.

Shawn got to play with some hermit crabs and mole crabs AKA sand fleas. He liked it so much that he spent 2 hrs playing with them and then he got the help the park volunteer release them back into the ocean.

The geocache was at the top of the tree and we didn't know how to reach it. So we decided to send Shawn up.

Here was a huge cache that we found, there was a ton of mosquitoes and Shawn is looking at one one his arm here.

We found this little pond today and it was covered with blackberries. The Berries are not ripe yet but Shawn enjoyed picking them and eating them anyways.

I was trying to get a picture with William looking at the book with the bronze figure, but it didn't work out that well.

Shawn is a super rock climber now. He love to climb at the parks here.

Haunted Fishing

Here's the description from the Geocaching website

This cache should be completed at night. Therefore a flashlight is required. The listed coordinates are where you should start, not where the cache is located. To find the cache you will need to complete a moderate hike through the woods looking for alternating red/white reflections. You may need to look around to find the next reflector.

The trail will meander along the shores of Reynolds Lake. Legend has it that a teenager drowned in this lake, and his boat is still anchored at the edge of the lake in tribute. Rumor has it that at night his ghost can be seen still fishing from the boat.

(I borrowed some night vision in hopes to capture the paranormal)

It was a slightly overcast day filled with promises of rain, and bad weather, promises that time to time would hold true, and then swiftly cease, leaving behind only dark clouds, and heavy dense air. Clouds that moved slowly still looming full of threats as they moved by drearily with the occasional roar of thunder far off in the distance. Could this be the absolute ideal time to attempt "Haunted Fishing?" Yes! A quick Check list was in order and then we were ready to go. Dark, Check! Damp, Check! Flashlights, Check! Full set of adult diapers, Double Check! With all the necessary supply's we were off to the well reputed "Haunted Fishing" cache. This was no walk in the park or loacal in town geocache, and definitely not a park and grab. All was quickly reassured as the trail head drew closer to view. Overgrown thick and dark, with the occasional sound of the local wildlife creating just enough background noise that one has to wonder, "would I hear, or did I hear, or what was that?" After weaving in and out through the trees searching for White reflectors, then Red, until we finally found Red and White! The cache was nestled not far away from the legendary and mythical boat, and yes it is still there. After finding the cache we started our way out and unlike the "Golden spider cache" there isn't any reflective way points to aid your return and before we knew it we found ourselves back near the cache and even closer to the boat, that's when I decided it was a good time to take some pics...

Did the night vision prove successful in the capture of the paranormal, note that's the original boat from the first picture at least they've got a trolling motor now, ghosts ride in style? There is no way to get a boat in here, all roads are blocked off...

Our last cache of the day was a plane crash on the Eglin Range. The plane is in the Middle of a swamp, luckily it hadn't rained for a few days and we where able to get to it without getting too muddy. There were on the other had tons for biting bugs!

Every Other Year there is an Air Show on Base, the 1st year we were here it was canceled because of lighting and wind. But this year the weather was nice and warm and we where able to go!

We went to the Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida today. It was interesting to see and learn a little about our areas past. In this picture Shawn is looking at some fishing gear.

Geocaching?

We recently learned about something called Geocaching. It's super awesome! First you go to Geocaching.com and create a free account then on the left hand side click Hide & Seek Cache and enter your address and it pulls up tons of hidden treasures that can be located with a GPS all around your location. With in the cache is a log book that you can sign as well as some trinkets that if you take something you just have to replace it with something of at least equal value. In our very first geocache adventure we found this old C-123 provider that crashed in 1968 when taking off from a local air field, Shawn loved it! We also brought our friends Roger and Erika with us too. Even little William is with us bundled real close to Mom in a Moby wrap.

Super Stuck, luckily some good Samaritans pulled us out.

It was high centered really bad and there was no getting it out without some help!

Normally the Geocaches are in ammo cans and we found this one, however this one reeks of sabotage!

So we didn't find the Geo but we did find this Old TA-4J.

It's seen better days!

This is the Exact TA-4J in 1983 when she was still flying before it had a few mishaps that deemed the aircraft unfit for flight, it was used as a trainer for Navy pilots. William's 2 day Hospital Stay

After 12 attempts and 2 blown out veins they finally got a I.V to start antibiotics, they tried both hands and feet so he's got to be sore. Unfortunately that I.V fell out later and they had to try another 5 times before they got one in his hand. After that I.V the Pediatrician said that if she had known that it fell out she wouldn't have had them put one back in.

Despite it all he still seemed like he was in pretty high spirits.

They really weren't sure what he had so they kept him for 2 days and 2 nights, before he came home they said that it could be RSV but they weren't sure? His chest X-rays were clear too so that's all they can assume.

Worn out monkey.

Shawn thought that the T.V was a pretty cool feature of the room.

William Rocking, and Rolling?

A few days ago, William and I were hanging out, so I decided to see how he would like some belly time. Well to say the least he didn't, He got a little angry started to grumble and then rolled over to his back. Thinking that is was some sort of fluke of nature I put him back on his stomach again and to my surprise he provided a instant replay! So the third time I got out my cell phone and tried again, so here he is at 9 days old showing off his new trick.

The Adventure of the Free Go KartLater today we picked up a free Go Kart, it was free for good reason...

Shawn was pretty exited even though it didn't run and had a flat unrepairable tire?

We went right to work! The spark plug was fouled and wouldn't fire, so we fixed that with a spare that I had laying around for the mower. Then with some starting fluid it would start but wouldn't stay running, so we had a fuel delivery problem. Then next logical step was tearing into the carburetor, so we did.

I've found that most of the time when a small engine won't run after sitting for a while a good carburetor cleaning is all it takes and it was definitely the case for this one. The little main jet in the carb was all "gummed up." I've always thought that it's amazing that a little part like the one below will keep big and small engines alike from running.

Here it is all torn apart and ready to go back together!

The Air Armament Museum

Today we went to the Air Armament Museum. We've been tons of times just because it's so close to our place and Shawn really loves it. Here's the link to the static displays around the Museum.

He had to see the old AC-130 Gunship first and then we moved on to the rest. If you click on most of these pictures they have links with more information just in case you want some more information about the aircraft.

XM800 Armored Reconnaissance Scout Vehicle

Couldn't really find out to much about this one other then it was a concept vehicle that failed, and it shares a name with another concept failure. So if your designing a concept anything don't use XM-800. Because in 1954 it didn't work for the Mercury either? Nice work XM Radio maybe its just the 800 combo that proves unlucky?

Shawn loves the Trainers, we can't stop at the Air Museum without him having to get in them at least once.

After the Museum we went to a place called Ci Ci's Pizza, It's a all you can eat Pizza place where we all ate for around $15. That's hard to beat, and probably the cheapest all around good food that I've eaten in a while.

Notice that Shawn is still wearing his hospital bracelet, he's pretty proud of his new little brother.

The Great Bicycle Adventure
of 2010

Today Todd and Shawn went on a Bicycle Adventure, into the woods.

The Florida sand caused Shawn to have a few pretty good wipe outs but don't worry he's O.K.

This is probably how it seemed in the cartoon below, but it must not be too far off, note the similarities of the squirrel in the above picture and the one in the cartoon, its almost a spooky resemblance? (It's the small white dot at the base of the tree in the above picture, ah yes now you see it.)
Ah Civilization! At this point Shawn saw a cop car and must have figured that we were having to much fun to be legal so he bolted! I probably wouldn't have caught him but he got his foot caught in one of his pedals and wiped out again.

Mom said that we had to be back before dark and I wasn't sure if we were going to make it.

Meanwhile back at home Mom and William were hanging out while William does what he does best... Sleeps.
